Outside of Tertiary Access Eleven, we see the grid
equivalent of automobiles, a bus, and some parked bicycles.
Inside the apartment building lobby where Exo drops off a
package, there is a roughly person-sized cubular tower and
when Exo walks past it, a callout bubble onscreen says "Talk
to Aysta". There is no description in the game materials of
who or what "Aysta" is. In the playthrough video of the game
I watched, the player does not stop at it.
Conn, a Core guard who interrogates Exo and later pursues
her for her "crimes", remarks to her, "...I'm thinking you
might be my ticket out of this code dump." In computer
terminology, a
code dump (also known as a "core dump", "crash dump", or
"memory dump") is a snapshot of a computer's or a program's
memory and system state at the moment it crashed or stopped
working.
Conn remembers that a couple hundred cycles ago, a program
predicted an apocalypse just like what is going on now. That
program was Cass, as seen in
Arq Grid.
In the Arena building, Exo speaks to Baud and gets
information about the "inquisitive" program. "Baud" is a
unit of measurement that determines the speed of
communication over a data channel in electronics.
To escape the Arena, Exo fights a guard named
Qwert. Q-W-E-R-T are the first five letters on the top
letter row of a typical QWERTY Latin-script keyboard.
Exo finds Query at Prime's bar and when he guesses she is in
trouble, she remarks he should be a detective and join the
Disciples of Tron. He is a former member of said disciples,
now retired, as seen in Arq Grid.
Query remarks that he made a lot of mistakes his last night
on the job as a Disciple of Tron. It's unclear whether he is
referring to the case he investigated in
Arq Grid or some other,
later, investigation.
Weaver is consistently referred to as "they" instead of "he"
or "her", implying this program is transgender.
Inside the version of Flynn's Arcade inside the Arq Grid,
Exo remarks to Gro that she used to fix all machines at
school, all the classics like Mondo Push,
Interception Zone, and Black Neon. This is the
first mention of all these games.
The characters in the game (such as Dos and Vac) refer to
their significant others as
their "parallel". This is probably a nod to "parallel
computing."
During Exo's attempt to escape from induction into Tacitus'
ranks after being captured by Conn, she goes through a
"Primary Process" (sort of the game equivalent of a "level",
I guess) called "Bodhi's Legacy". Bodhi was a program who
appeared in "Beck's Beginning",
a brash and impetuous vehicle maintenance worker at Able's
Garage who was friends with co-workers Beck, Zed, and Mara.
He was derezzed in that episode by one of Clu 2's guards.
In reaching the Outlands beyond the boundaries of the Arq
Grid, Exo flies her stolen Light Jet through the Yori
Valley. The valley is presumably named after Yori, a program
in the original ENCOM Mainframe created by programmer Lora
Baines as seen in Tron.
When Exo asks Oracle if she is aligned with Core, Oracle
responds, "No. I find myself more aligned with Automata. The
Users, if they ever existed at all, have turned their backs
on us. Core are waiting for a server that will never ping."
The "server that will never ping" remark is a reference to
the act of performing a "ping" (Packet Internet Groper), a
basic internet command used in computer network
administration to test and verify the availability of a
destination IP address assigned to a device.
Switch tells Exo to be careful, "Enough voxels have been
spilled today." A voxel is a value representation on a
three-dimensional grid, the way a pixel is on a
two-dimensional grid.
Switch tells Exo "userspeed". This would be the digital
world's equivalent to saying "Godspeed" in our world.
Query's female investigator friend leaves a message in the
form of a data fragment, telling him she left another data
fragment about Cass under the table she and Query used to
play Go at.
Go is a board game that originated in ancient China over
2000 years ago and is still popular today. Flynn had a Go
board with the pieces arranged in the middle of a game at
his sanctuary in the grid in
Legacy.
Query gives Exo a code that
provides Decoy ability, saying it was given to him by a man
he met in a library long ago. This is a reference to events
in
Arq Grid
and the Automata ambassador Sierra.
Conn refers to his lifetime as "runtime". This may be the
Grid's term for "life".
